What are healers and what is healing?

Heal:

to make sound or whole.

to restore to health.

to cause an undesirable condition to be overcome.

to patch up a breach or division.

to restore to original purity or integrity

to return to a sound state.

Healer: one that heals.

We must remember that healers do not actually "do" the healing. They have no power other than the ability to connect and channel these healing energies. They also use other skills and abilities gained in studying various therapies and their continuous practice. Being a healer is not about "ego" or power but rather about knowing that all life is connected and interdependent, and that even our smallest acts can have a great impact on the Universe.

Healers are people who act as a bridge to connect people to their own ability to make themselves whole, healthy and harmonized. Healers use a variety of tools such as accessing spiritual and vibrational energies, colour therapy, sound therapy, crystal therapy, herbalism, aromatherapy and essential oils, flower remedies, homeopathy and many more. But the greatest tool of all is Unconditional love.

Energy and Healing

We are energy and we are surrounded by energy, the whole universe is energy. The practice of energy healing such as Reiki for instance has made a great difference in many people's lives. Many have experienced relief from pain, and it does happen that diagnosis have changed, and through this miracles have  occurred.  Recovery from illness, injury or surgery has been accelerated. In many cases mental and emotional conditions have improved, while for many others their spiritual awareness has greatly increased.

Healing refers the harmonisation of our internal balance and may not mean being "cured " of an ill or a disease. Illness happens when the mind, body and spirit become unbalanced. The word healing covers many things, meaning  becoming whole on all levels of being - the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Healing equals wellness and it can only be achieved by correcting any imbalance and returning the entire being to harmony and balance.

Disease first begins with distortions and blocks in our aura and our energy bodies which in turn permeate into our physical body. These blocks arise from stress and emotional or mental disturbances in our daily lives. One cause of illness and great stress is that we seem to have accepted that life is a continuous struggle or a punishment.

This is not what life is meant to be

We must let go of this struggle and allow ourselves to be much kinder and loving to ourselves. The greatest cause for imbalance is when something is missing in our lives, it could be the lack of self love, self confidence or self awareness. When our greatest desire is to be well and whole, this spurs us with the motivation to heal ourselves and to act so that we begin our own healing. Healing for some would mean simply seeing life from a different viewpoint, for others it would mean to fully express themselves and value their emotions, it could mean enjoying in our adult life the simple fun things we may have missed out on in our childhood days.

It is never too late to have a childhood!

Life is a precious thing. We are meant to be well, to be balanced and joyful in our bodies.

How does Reiki work?

The existence of 'life force energy' and the necessity for it to flow freely in and around one's body to maintain health has been studied and acknowledged by health care practitioners as well as scientists.

Our body is composed not only of physical elements such as muscles, bones, nerves, arteries, organs, glands, etc.; it also has a subtle energy system through which "life force energy" flows. Our physical body is alive because of the "life force energy" that is flowing though it. This subtle energy system is composed of energy "bodies" (a field of energy called the aura) which surround our physical body and assist us in processing our thoughts and emotions.

These energy bodies have energy centres called chakras, which work like valves that allow life force to circulate through the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. We also have energy meridians and nadis. These are like rivers, or streams which carry our life force energy throughout our physical body, to nourish us and assist in balancing our body’s systems and functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.

One thing that disrupts and weakens the flow of 'life force energy' is stress. Medical research has determined that continual stress can block the body's natural ability to repair, regenerate and protect itself. It is estimated that 75% to 95% of all visits to doctors are stress related. The effects of unreleased stress range from minor aches to major health concerns, such as heart disease, digestive disorders, respiratory and skin problems.

Stress is often caused by conflicting thoughts and feelings that get lodged in one's subtle energy system. The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These include fear, worry, doubt, anger, anxiety, etc. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. If our 'life force' is low or blocked, we are more likely to get sick, but if it is high and free flowing, we more easily maintain health and a feeling of well-being.

Do all healers use Reiki?

All healers use life force or Ki/Chi, but not all healers use Reiki. Reiki is a special kind of life force that can only be channelled by someone that has been attuned to it. It is possible that some people are born with Reiki or have gotten it some other way. However, most healers who have not received the Reiki attunement from a Reiki teacher are not using Reiki but another kind of life force. People who already do healing work report an increase in the strength of their healing energies after receiving a Reiki attunement.

After the attunement, they could feel the difference between the healing energies they had been using and Reiki. They reported that the Reiki energies were of a much higher frequency. And that it was much easier to give a healing session with Reiki as it didn't have to be guided into the body like the other healing energies they were using, as well as that, Reiki began flowing without having to enter an altered state.

How does Reiki heal?

To better understand Reiki there is no better way than to experience a session. Reiki is a healing method, which passes -mostly- through the hands, allowing energy, warmth and love to flow into the receiver’s body. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Reiki can never cause harm

Because Reiki is guided by the God-consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never need worry about whether to give Reiki or not, in  most cases it is always helpful. In addition, the practitioner does not direct the healing and does not decide what to heal. Therefore, as the practitioner is not doing the healing, it is also much easier for the ego to stay out of the way and allow the presence of God to clearly shine through. In the Light of the Creator...We See Only Love. Let go and let God....

When NOT to give Reiki?

I recommend that you never give yourself or another person Reiki just before going under anaesthesia in an operation.  Reiki tends to neutralise the effects of the anaesthetics rather quickly, however giving someone a Reiki after surgery can help with feelings of sickness and pain relief.

There is another situation in which Reiki is inappropriate and that is when a bone is broken and has not been set. In those circumstances it would not be wise to use Reiki as the healing would begin before the bone was in the optimal position.

The healer's energy is never depleted

Because it is a channelled healing, the Reiki practitioner's own energies are never depleted. In fact, the Reiki consciousness considers both practitioner and client to be in need of healing, so both receive during a treatment. This natural healing energy flows in a powerful and concentrated form. The receiver absorbs the higher light energy, which initiates and accelerates the healing process.

By the laying on of hands the Reiki giver is used as a channel allowing the flow of the Universal Life Energy into the body of the receiver. As a result, no personal energy is drawn or drained from the giver. Giving a treatment always increases one's energy and leaves us surrounded with loving feelings of well-being.
